The Torrance Police Department strives to remain at the forefront of policing by providing our officers with the latest in public safety equipment and technology , and by providing our officers with the best law enforcement training available. The Position The Police Services Officer is a non-sworn public safety position that provides essential operational and administrative support to the Police Department. Incumbents perform a wide range of duties including prisoner booking and care, property and evidence management, parking enforcement, court liaison services, subpoena processing, community outreach, vehicle fleet coordination, and public assistance. The position serves as a key point of contact for the public by receiving complaints, answering inquiries, preparing reports, and assisting crime victims and community members. Police Services Officers work in a dynamic law enforcement environment where they must exercise sound judgment, maintain accurate records, ensure compliance with established procedures, and effectively interact with diverse populations. This role requires strong customer service, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to perform multiple responsibilities while supporting the safety, security, and operational effectiveness of the Police Department. Hours:
Police Services Officers must be available to work four, 10-hour shifts per week on a rotating basis, including weekends and holidays. Shift hours are 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Day Shift), 2 p.m. to 12 a.m. (Midnight) (Swing Shift), and 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. (Graveyard Shift).
Shift Differentials:
In addition to base pay, Police Services Officers will receive 5% for swing shift and 7.5% for graveyard shift.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge and skills required is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be: Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate. No specific experience is required; experience working with the public is desirable. Successful completion of a Standards and Training for Corrections certified Adult Corrections Officer Core Course must be completed within the first year of employment as a condition of continued employment. License and/or
Certificates:
A valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License (Class C) of the appropriate class or grade.
