Job Description

POLICE OFFICER
AUBURNDALE
POLICE DEPARTMENT
MAJOR
FUNCTIONS
This is responsible police work providing protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances. Performs all work under the supervision of the Police Sergeant.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Enforces laws and ordinances; patrols assigned areas; controls traffic; prevents crime; serves warrants and arrests violators. Operates police radio to maintain communications with dispatch. Responds to complaints and incidents (e.g., traffic accidents, criminal activities or violations); secures incident scene to restore peace, assists with injured persons, and protects evidence and property; takes detailed statements from witnesses and suspects; and testifies in court proceedings. Performs other non-essential duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE
Knowledge of principles, methods, practices, rules, regulations, procedures and operations of law enforcement. Ability to work under stress; ability to remain in good physical condition, and ability to establish and build effective relations with city employees and the public is essential. High school graduation or GED. Eligibility for certification as a police officer by the FDLE Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission is required. The successful applicant will be required to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening, background investigation, psychological assessment, polygraph, as well as other pre-employment reviews.

$57,068 Annually
