$74,719.50
Annually Position Summary:
The purpose of this position is to prepare a non-certified applicant (Police Cadet) to receive the necessary training and education through The Law Enforcement Basic Recruit Training (Police Academy) to become a prospective Police Officer. The Police Academy prepares the cadet to become an entry-level law enforcement officer in the State of Florida. Employees in this classification perform practical skills and simulated activities that complement the classroom instruction. This minimum standards program is regulated by the Florida statutes and is a highly structured and disciplined program. Upon successful completion of the Basic Training Program, a cadet is eligible to take the Florida Department of Law Enforcement State Officer Certification exam. This position is under the general supervision of the Chief of Police or designee. Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions:
Attends all required courses at the Police Academy. While at the Police Academy, Cadets are supervised by Academy Staff and required to perform any related duties the Academy deems necessary. Required to complete the Florida Law Enforcement Basic Recruit training (Florida Police Academy) in an effort to become eligible to take the state of Florida Department of Law Enforcement State Officer Certification exam. Performs routine office functions such as filing, faxing, answering phones, and copying. Performs related duties as directed.
Requirements:
Minimum age of 19 years. Must be United States Citizen at time of application (F.S.S. 943.13(2)). Must have High School Diploma or equivalent. An evaluation of foreign high school diploma may be required. Must not have been convicted of any felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement as an adult. Must have good moral character as determined by a background investigation (F.S.S. 943.13). If ever arrested, must submit an official court disposition with the application. Official court dispositions can be obtained from the Clerk of the Court in the county in which the incident occurred. Must successfully pass the Basic Abilities Test (CJBAT or FBAT). If not completed by the time of application, applicants must have their Basic Abilities Test scheduled by the date of their interview. The Basic Abilities Test is not required for non-certified applicants with Associate's degree or higher. Must successfully pass the Physical Agility Test. The Physical Agility Test must be completed at Broward College Institute of Public Safety Testing Center. If not completed by the time of application, applicants must have their Physical Agility Test scheduled at Broward College Institute of Public Safety Testing Center by the date of their interview.
