Role:
The City of Clinton is currently accepting applications for a Full-Time Public Service Officer (PSO) . This civilian position plays a vital role in supporting the Clinton Police Department by performing a variety of field and office activities related to the routine, non-sworn aspects of law enforcement. This position does not carry arrest powers , is not authorized to carry a firearm or impact weapon , and does not respond to emergency or confrontational calls . It is ideal for individuals who are community-oriented, detail-driven, and interested in public service without the enforcement responsibilities of a sworn officer.
Key Responsibilities:
Respond to non-emergency calls (e.g., nuisance complaints, abandoned vehicles, non-injury accidents on private property, animal calls) Assist with traffic control and roadway closures during emergencies or events Prepare incident reports and lost/found property documentation Support vehicle maintenance and courier services Provide lobby and phone assistance to the public Enforce parking regulations and assist with animal control duties Escort funeral processions and wide loads Attend court as required and participate in training Maintain professional relationships with the public and city personnel
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED equivalent Two (2) years of related experience preferred U.S. citizenship Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record Ability to pass a background check Must reside within 20 air miles of City Hall within one year of employment
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Knowledge of department regulations, policies and procedures, City ordinances, State statutes, and federal laws, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge. Knowledge of modern practices, procedures, and equipment, including computers and word processing, spreadsheet, and database software. Skill in the operation of office and telecommunications equipment and machines, including a personal computer, mobile computer terminal, and phone system. Skill in preparing and maintaining complete and accurate reports. Ability to analyze problems and determine proper solutions or make appropriate recommendations. Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with colleagues, supervisors, and the public. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and police department information. Ability to tolerate physical extremes from being seated and at rest to physical exertion in short periods of time. Ability to perform tasks with intense concentration for extended periods of time while remaining calm. Ability to work in a structured command environment, working as a member of a team or as an individual. Ability to work well and for sustained periods of time in extreme temperature and weather conditions.
