Patrols neighborhoods, responds to emergency calls and crime scenes, watches for traffic and driving violations. Authorized to arrest criminals; prepares cases and testifies in court.
08/10/2026 4:00 PM The Edgartown Police Department is currently accepting applications for the following position: Edgartown Police Department - Police Officer MPTC full-time Police Academy and POST Certified officers preferred. Applicant must be a U.S Citizen, at least 21 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and possess a valid MA driver's license, as well as a valid LTC or ability to obtain one. Applicant must be able to perform the duties and responsibilities of a Police Officer. Successful applicant will be required to pass a medical and psychological examination, fitness test, and an extensive background investigation. Full-time Police Officer starting salary is $100,391.04 (8-step annual increase pay scale), plus an educational incentive (Associates 6%, Bachelors 12%, Masters 15%), overtime pay, and detail pay. Health insurance benefits, retirement benefits, 10-hour patrol shifts, 4 shifts on - 3 off work week, vacation, holiday pay & accrual, personal days, sick days, longevity pay, and shift differentials. Qualified lateral transfer candidates are encouraged to apply and may be eligible for placement at a step equal to their current salary or on a higher step on the salary scale based on experience and qualifications. New Hire benefits also include a $5,000 sign-on incentive. The first installment of $2,500 will be paid as a one-time lump sum on the employee's second paycheck.
