Job Description

The Kent County Sheriff's Office is hiring Marine Patrol Deputies to ensure water safety and enforce Michigan Marine Safety Laws on county waterways. This role includes patrolling during peak recreational periods (Memorial Day to Labor Day) and teaching boating and ORV safety courses year-round.
Responsibilities:
Enforce marine laws and promote safe boating practices Patrol county waters during high-use periods Investigate water-related incidents and assist boaters Conduct public boating and ORV safety classes Collaborate with area first responders when necessary Additional Information Extensive background checks and drug testing required Seasonal schedule (Memorial Day to Labor Day) with occasional off-season training Physical fitness and the ability to handle water-related emergencies are essential Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent Valid, unrestricted Michigan driver's license Familiarity with Kent County geography and waterways Knowledge of Michigan Marine Law; law enforcement experience preferred Strong public engagement and communication skills Training & Certification Completion of defensive tactics and de-escalation training Certification in Tasers, OC Spray, and department-issued firearms Possess or complete CPL certification LEIN certification and proficiency in report writing •Notices will come via email so please be sure to monitor the email address indicated on your application• Kent County takes pride in living our values to foster a true sense of belonging among all of our staff.
