Are you passionate about serving and protecting your community? Join the City of Novi as a Part-Time Police Cadet and have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of others. As a Police Cadet, you will work alongside experienced law enforcement professionals, gaining valuable insights and hands-on experience in the field. This is a unique opportunity to get a firsthand look at the inner workings of a police department and contribute to public safety in Novi. As a team member you'll be able to enjoy benefits such as Tuition Reimbursement up to $1000 per fiscal year. The pay for this position is $21.00 per hour.

WHO WE ARE The City of Novi, Michigan (population est. 66,000+, located in desirable Oakland County, SE Michigan) seeks a proactive, career oriented Police Cadet to work and learn in a community oriented problem-solving environment. Since beginning the Police Cadet Program in 2009, 15 Cadets have successfully obtained full-time Police Officer careers within the City of Novi.
WHAT DOES A POLICE CADET DO?
As a Police Cadet with the City of Novi, you will assist with various tasks to support the police department's operations. Your responsibilities may include attending and assisting with community events, conducting traffic control, performing administrative duties, and observing police procedures. You will have the opportunity to learn from experienced officers and gain practical knowledge of law enforcement practices. This role will require strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, and the ability to follow instructions accurately and efficiently. Your dedication and willingness to learn will be crucial as you navigate day-to-day tasks within the police department.
WHAT MATTERS MOST
To excel as a Police Cadet at the City of Novi, you must possess excellent customer service skills and the ability to interact professionally with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Proficiency with various software tools and the capacity to learn new technologies quickly will be essential. You should have strong organizational skills to handle administrative tasks efficiently and accurately, such as taking non-criminal reports, conducting detention facility duties, and managing administrative duties like administering preliminary breath tests and handling vehicle releases. Attention to detail is critical when performing citation sign-offs and other documentation tasks. Your adaptability, problem-solving skills, and commitment to upholding integrity and safety standards will contribute to your success in this dynamic role. Knowledge and skills required for the position are: Responsibilities include providing customer service to those who visit the police department taking non-criminal reports made at the police department detention facility duties and administrative duties such as administering preliminary breath tests vehicle releases and citation sign-offs.
