Job Responsibilities:
The Capitol Police Lieutenant serves as the Commander of the Patrol Division and the Executive Protection Detail at the Governor's Mansion. This position reports directly to the Capitol Police Captain and is responsible for managing personnel, directing operations, and overseeing these Divisions. Directing law enforcement operations to protect the public, state employees, elected officials, the Governor, and the Governor's family. Providing leadership to department officers through coaching and mentoring. Overseeing staffing, planning, and operational resources. Coordinating responses to major incidents, emergencies, special events, and dignitary protection within the Capitol jurisdiction. Conducting or overseeing criminal and administrative investigations, independently or in coordination with other law enforcement partner agencies. Monitoring and reviewing supervisors' performance and compliance with policies and standards. Recommending hiring and promotions. Administering discipline as needed.
Qualifications - All you need for success
Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of the current Missouri Class A or B Peace Officer license issued by the Missouri Department of Public Safety. Ability to maintain Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification. At least five (5) years of relevant law enforcement supervisory experience. Must possess a valid Missouri driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ability to plan, establish and maintain complex operations. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Strong leadership, organizational and administrative skills. Sound judgment in managing critical incidents and emergency operations. Ability to work cooperatively with other public safety agencies, including local, state, and federal agencies. Knowledge of law enforcement techniques and criminal investigations.

The successful candidate must have:
Ability to pass an in-depth background investigation conducted by the Missouri Capitol Police prior to appointment. Ability to pass a medical and visual examination with corrected eyesight to 20/40, a pre-employment drug screen, and a psychological evaluation, as prescribed by the Missouri Department of Public Safety, after a conditional offer of appointment has been made. Physical ability to sit and stand for extended periods and to lift, carry, push, pull, or drag up to 180 pounds occasionally. No objectionable tattoos and no tattoos visible while on duty (i.e., tattoos must be covered with uniform) or when representing the Missouri Capitol Police in an official capacity, unless approved by the Chief of Police. Ability to successfully complete a six-month field training and probationary period. Lack of post‐secondary education will not be used as the sole basis denying consideration to any applicant.
