PRIMARY DUTY
Police officers enforce and promote awareness of University policies and procedures, municipal ordinances, state statutes, and federal laws with supervision. Officers patrol and document complex criminal and civil incidents. Officers maintain a high degree of independence, initiative, and interaction with all campus factions and local communities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Enforce University policies, municipal ordinances, state statutes and federal laws. 2. Analyze and respond to critical situations under minimal supervision. 3. Provide a trauma-informed response to emergencies, disasters and crises. 4. Protect the lives and property of community members. 5. Perform traffic and parking enforcement. 6. Perform vehicular and foot patrol throughout University owned property. 7. Perform consistent facility, content and equipment checks within the jurisdiction. 8. Assist in the investigation of daily and ongoing cases. 9. Assist in the collection and submission of evidence. 10. Assist in the security and emergency operation plan at events. 11. Assist in the development and training of student employees. 12. Assist municipal, county, state and federal agencies when applicable. 13. Provide information and assistance to the community and campus visitors. 14. Communicate and document effectively and efficiently. 15. Provide community policing models and perform public presentations. 16. Responsible for maintaining all required trainings, certifications and licensures. 17. REQUIREMENTS
Education:
High School Diploma Experience:
Two years' experience in a customer-oriented field
Skills:
Ability to receive and maintain a Missouri peace officer's certification, a Missouri driver's license, and no criminal history based on a criminal background check; Attention to detail, Communication skills, including oral, written, and/or nonverbal, Human Relations/Interpersonal skills, Leadership skills: organization/meeting facilitation/project leadership, Maintain confidentiality
WORKING CONDITIONS
Works outdoors/indoors during inclement weather including nights, weekends and holidays.
EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS USED
Operates office equipment, specialized law enforcement equipment, radios, police vehicles, weapons, etc.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Primary functions require physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include running, walking, crouching, or crawling during emergency operations. Moving equipment, climbing stairs/ladders, walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time. mobility/strength/dexterity/balance/coordination/endurance.
