Job Description

Under the general direction of the assigned Bureau Deputy Chief, coordinates the activities of the Division. The Commander provides oversight of all units within the division. Coordinates activities with other Federal, State and City Departments, divisions and outside agencies; provide highly responsive and complex support to chain of command. This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing. This is an unclassified at-will position. For advertisement purposes. Bachelor's Degree or higher in criminal justice related field preferred. Must possess at least one (1) year of experience in law enforcement management/supervision at or above the rank of Lieutenant. Completion of Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command or the FBI National Academy preferred. Must maintain sworn law enforcement officer certification, and remain capable of performing the functions of a Patrol Officer 1st Class, including the ability to affect a forceful arrest In state applicants must be currently certified. Out of state applicants must be currently certified and their certification must be recognized and approved by the New Mexico Department of Public Safety. Out of state applicants must successfully complete a New Mexico Law Enforcement certification by waiver course Must possess a valid driver's license (out-of-state applicants must obtain a New Mexico driver's license within 30 days of being hired) Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
