LEVEL RANKING
Individuals interested in the entry-level application process must complete and submit an application as stated above. Attach copies of all earned college degrees, proof of completion of the police academy, and honorable military discharge papers (DD214), if applicable. All applicants must pass a physical agility test (date, time & location to be set). The physical agility test will consist of three events: 1.5-mile run, sit-ups in a minute & push-ups in a minute. A minimum combined score of five (5) must be obtained. Scoring in the "automatic failure" range of any event will cause the candidate to be ineligible for hire. Scoring ranges for each physical agility event can be found here.
ENTRY-LEVEL RANKING
Rankings will be determined by the total score based on an applicant's educational level, possession of a police academy certificate of completion, a military honorable discharge, and the results from the physical agility test. Only applicants who pass the physical agility test will be considered. Points will be awarded in the following categories per the applicable ordinance and any exhibits and/or amendments: Education OPOTA or another state's Police Academy Associate's Degree Bachelor's Degree Master's Degree or higher Physical Agility Test Physical Agility Test As many sit-ups in one minute As many push-ups in one minute Military Experience Honorable Discharge Only applicants who pass the physical agility test will be considered.

Attach copies of all earned college degrees and/or proof of completion of the police academy, and honorable military discharge papers (DD214), if applicable. Individuals must hold a valid Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTC) Certification, or other out-of-state equivalent. To be eligible as a lateral-entry candidate, an applicant must be currently working as a sworn officer in any state or have worked as a sworn officer in any state within the last 12 months. All applicants must pass a physical agility test (date, time & location to be set). The physical agility test will consist of three events: 1.5-mile run, sit-ups in a minute & push-ups in a minute. PATROL OFFICER JOB DUTIES
Under general direction, the Patrol Officer is responsible for patrolling the streets, conducting investigations & responding to citizen complaints. Tallmadge patrol officers are responsible for various tasks, including but not limited to the following: Patrol the City on foot and in car Respond to dispatched calls Investigate criminal activity Assist injured individuals Conduct interviews Preserve, photograph, document & process crime scenes Enforce local & state criminal laws Subdue & disarm suspects Arrest suspects Process arrested individuals Incarcerate or transport suspects to jail Attend all court hearings & related meetings Represent the department at public meetings Inform citizens of department services Work cooperatively with community groups Respond to citizen concerns & resolve conflicts Attend meetings & serve on temporary committees as requested Maintain & increase knowledge & skills through attendance at meetings, conferences, trainingcourses & in-service training sessions Performs additional duties & assignments as requested
ENTRY-LEVEL QUALIFICATIONS
- US Citizenship
- Valid driver's license and ability to obtain an Ohio Driver's license at the time of appointment
- Must be able to read and write the English language
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED
- Applicant must be at least 21 years old, and not older than 35 years old at the time of appointment
- Meet other qualifications as listed in the posting, including, but not limited to successfully completing an in-depth background investigation, interview, polygraph, psychological, physical agility & medical examinations.
LATERAL-ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS

- Is currently or, within the last year, has been a sworn law enforcement officer
- US Citizenship
