About the Position Patrol Officers are assigned to one of five patrol beats within the City and are responsible for responding to calls for service, proactively patrolling their assigned areas, and building positive relationships within the community. Officers are encouraged to identify and implement innovative solutions to recurring issues to help reduce crime and improve quality of life. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent At least 21 years of age by date of hire Valid driver's license by date of hire Successful completion of the National Testing Network (NTN) exam (see details below) Additional Requirements for Employment Pass the Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT) Meet Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards & Training (DPSST) physical standards Pass a thorough background investigation Obtain Criminal Justice Information Service (CJIS) clearance upon hire Speak, read, and write English proficiently Ability to work rotating shifts in support of a 24-hour public safety operation, including nights, weekends, and holidays Obtain DPSST Basic Police Certification following academy and field training Maintain an acceptable driving record Schedule & Training Patrol teams work 3/12 or 4/10 schedules with one monthly training day. Training topics include defensive tactics, EVOC, crisis negotiation, MRT skills, HAZMAT awareness, ethics, leadership development, CPR/first aid, and legal updates. Why Join Team MPD? Cost:
The NTN Frontline exam fee is currently $65. Candidates are responsible for the testing fee; however, the City reimburses this expense upon hire. Already tested? Scores from exams completed within the previous 12 months may be transferred through NTN.
Please note:
While exam scores may be transferred, all candidates are required to complete a new video interview. Previous video interviews will not be accepted or considered. After your transferred exam score has been received, the Medford Human Resources Department will email you an invitation to complete a new video interviews. Step 3: Assessment Center Qualified candidates with the highest NTN scores will advance to MPD's Assessment Center, which will be held August 18-20, 2026 . Step 4: Physical Abilities Test Candidates who successfully complete the Assessment Center will be invited to take the Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT), which will be held Friday, August 21, 2026 . Step 5: Background Investigation Candidates who successfully complete the Assessment Center and ORPAT will undergo a comprehensive background investigation and may be placed on an eligibility list for future vacancies.
