Immediately Job Description School Police Officer (SPO)

Qualifications:

Must possess the necessary certification, clearances, and training to be a legally qualified SPO in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

Essential Responsibilities:

Assist school officials with enforcement of school policy and regulations regarding student and visitor conduct. Protect persons and property on school premises; work through school administration to address concerns related to school safety, including building security, transportation, emergency response and evacuation plans.

Responsibilities:

Enforce federal, state and local traffic and criminal laws and ordinances. Assist school officials with enforcement of school policy and regulations regarding student and visitor conduct. Take effective law enforcement action against unwanted intruders. Conduct security building assessments for all district property (check/secure doors, rooms, and or equipment). Perform other duties as required or assigned by the Executive Director and IU29 Administration. Physical Effort and Work Environment No prolonged, extreme physical demands are associated with normal duties or assignments, but the SPO may exert strenuous physical effort during emergency situations. The SPO must perform duties and take appropriate action in emergency situations, despite the stress associated with potential injury or loss of life to self or others. Ensure compliance with school regulations and policies. Give testimony and present evidence in legal proceedings, if necessary. In conjunction with school administration, maintain control of emergency incidents requiring law enforcement intervention until relieved by police or fire department command personnel

The School Police Officer shall be evaluated per the Board's Policy on Evaluation of Compensation Plan Employees.

Terms of Employment:

The School Police Officer shall be employed on a part-time basis for ten months of the year. Successfully complete basic training as required by the Municipal Police Officers' Education and Training commission under 53 Pa.

C.S. Ch. 21 Subch. D (relating to municipal police education and training) or has graduated from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy, has been employed as a State trooper with the Pennsylvania State Police, and has separated from that service in good standing. Successfully complete the Basic School Resource Officer Course offered by the National Association of School Resource Officers or an equivalent course of instruction approved by the commission. (ii). A school police officer who is currently employed or contracted by a school entity or nonpublic school shall have six months from the effective date of this paragraph to complete the instruction. (July 2, 2019). A school police officer shall also attend annual in-service training approved by the Municipal Police Officers' Education and Training Commission under 53 Pa.
