Our Credentialing Division The TCOLE Credentialing Division is responsible for processing and maintaining all peace officer, jailer and telecommunicator licenses, certificates, and permits throughout Texas. This includes reviewing applications for initial licensing, renewals, and endorsements; verifying training requirements and continuing education compliance; maintaining accurate licensee records; and coordinating with training academies and law enforcement agencies to ensure proper credentialing. The division also processes specialty certifications, handles license modifications and corrections, and provides customer service to law enforcement personnel and agencies regarding licensing requirements and procedures. Who We're Looking For The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) is seeking a License and Permit Specialist III to join the Credentialing Division located at 6330 E HWY 290, Suite 200, Austin, TX. Performs complex (journey-level) licensing and permitting work involving the review, processing, and approval of license and permit applications. Ensures compliance with applicable state and federal regulations, administrative codes, and agency policies while providing technical assistance to internal and external stakeholders. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. The salary for this position is $51,060.09. The Job Class for this position is 0173 and salary group is B18. Examples of Work Performed Reviews license and permit applications, renewals, and revisions for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with state and federal regulations, policies, and guidelines. Processes and inputs license and permit applications, payments, and technical data into appropriate computer systems, databases, and agency applications. Issues licenses and permits, collects fees, and maintains accurate payment records. Administers oral, written, and practical examinations to license and permit applicants as required. Provides technical assistance and guidance to the stakeholders, agency staff, and government officials regarding licensing and permitting requirements, processes, and procedures. Monitors license and permit applications, contract registrations, inspections, and other related permits to ensure appropriate routing and processing. Interprets and communicates licensing and permitting requirements and statutory information to various stakeholders. Responds to telephone calls, emails, and walk-in customers to resolve licensing and permitting issues. Provides forms and general information to visitors and ensures proper routing of completed applications. Prepares correspondence, notices, reports, and documentation related to licensing activities and compliance matters. Evaluates and tracks applications and responses to notices of deficiency to ensure timely resolution. Investigates and resolves complex issues involving licenses, registrations, and payment histories. Maintains comprehensive program data and records associated with licensed and permitted activities. Prepares documents for scanning and maintains organized filing systems. May train and provide guidance to other staff on licensing procedures and regulations. Other duties as assigned.Qualifications Required Education and Experience:
At least sixty (60) hours of college coursework from an accredited college or university, or graduation from an accredited college or university. Three (3) years or more of customer service experience in a professional office setting. Education and experience may be substituted for each other on a year-for-year basis.Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Knowledge of office practices, administrative procedures, and applicable policies, administrative codes, and statutes. Understanding of licensing and permitting processes, regulations, and compliance requirements. Proficiency with standard office equipment, computers, and software applications. Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain complex regulations clearly. Ability to interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures accurately. Skill in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and database management systems. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders. Strong customer service orientation with ability to handle difficult situations professionally. Capability to work independently and make sound decisions within established guidelines. Attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing applications and maintaining records.Preferred Education and Experience:
Administrative experience involving office practices and procedures. Experience in the issuance of licenses, registrations, or certifications.Preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Experience with regulatory compliance and enforcement procedures. Knowledge of specific industry regulations related to the agency's licensing programs.
