Texas State Trooper Texas State Troopers are commissioned law enforcement officers with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). Responsibilities include patrolling highways, enforcing traffic laws, investigating motor vehicle accidents, apprehending offenders, and assisting local, state, and federal agencies. Troopers may also provide security at the State Capitol and enforce commercial vehicle regulations. Opportunities for specialized assignments include drug detection, marine patrol, dive recovery, and crowd control.Training Requirements:
Selected candidates must complete a comprehensive training academy consisting of over 500 hours of instruction in areas such as law enforcement procedures, crash investigation, use of force, and emergency medical care. Ongoing training is required every two years.Core Values:
