JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision of Police Sergeant, the Police Officer enforces Federal, State, and City laws, rules, regulations, ordinances and codes, by performing various law enforcement tasks that support law enforcement and crime prevention activities. Performs investigative work and other special assignments; performs a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of the department. Maintains high visibility in the community to deter and prevent criminal activity and educates the public in ways to protect themselves from criminal activity.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Patrol/Criminal Investigations Fully embrace and carryout the Prevention Focused Community Policing philosophy of the Bellmead Police Department. Conduct routine patrol of assigned City areas to assist in crime prevention efforts, report and respond to suspicious circumstances, traffic violations, and hazards to life or property while enforcing all City ordinances, County, State, and Federal laws. Respond to calls for service including the investigation of civil and criminal activity, citizen complaints, traffic accidents, domestic violence issues, and other areas of misconduct or emergencies. Mediate and/or negotiate conflicts and disagreements within the community. Arrest, charge, and book violators of laws or individuals with outstanding warrants for their arrest. Transport those arrested to jail, if required. Present testimony and evidence in municipal and county courts on traffic, civil, or criminal cases. Assist with Police Department and City sponsored events including traffic and crowd control. Observe, monitor and control routine and unusual traffic conditions. Stop drivers who are operating vehicles in violation of laws. Warn drivers against unlawful practices, and issue citations when warranted. Advocate public awareness for crime prevention, neighborhood watch, and other citizen programs. Complete reports, citations, documentation, and case files in a timely manner. Gather information in criminal investigations by interviewing and obtaining statements of victims, witnesses, suspects and confidential informants. Analyze criminal, emergency and law violation situations to determine the best method or procedure. Aid in criminal investigations and law violations using physical evidence, statements, and further evidence gathered within the department, and using effective law enforcement techniques. Administer first aid as necessary. 2. Warrants Serve warrants and subpoenas. Remain aware on current laws and procedures require for processing warrants. Retrieve and request information involving arrests and subpoenas. File complaints and perform other work related to the processing of misdemeanor and felony complaints. 3. Evidence Collect and preserve evidence at accident and crime scenes. Lift fingerprints. Draw sketches and take photographs. Handle and maintain chain of custody of electronic evidence. Maintain control of all crime scenes. 4. Public Relations Establish and maintain good relationships with the public. Maintain contact with citizens regarding law enforcement problems and preserve good relationships with the general public. Proactively interact with the community to prevent crime and enhance the quality of life in Bellmead. Assist with community outreach programs. Represent the City in all areas of assigned responsibility. 5. Other Duties Performs other related duties as assigned. Maintain equipment and tools inventory. May be requested to participate in
SWAT/ERT
training and assignments. Work with and assist police volunteers. Regular and consistent timely attendance for the assigned work hours is essential.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:
High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Basic police certification from TCOLE is required Police experience is preferred. Special Requirements City of Bellmead employment application required.
