Job Summary

• Reposted 5/18/2026 This position performs criminal warrant and civil process service, court bailiff, court security, school security, patrol, and specialized duties as assigned.

Major Duties Serves civil process papers, to include citations, summons, subpoenas, writs, forcible detainers, and restraining and protective orders. Serves misdemeanor and felony warrants; makes arrests of individuals or provides backup to other agencies in making arrests. Reviews civil papers and warrants for proper and complete information. Serves as bailiff during court sessions; introduces the judge, provides court security, and takes control and custody of prisoners. Enforces traffic laws; issues citations; directs traffic as needed. Transports prisoners. Provides assistance to citizens with disabled vehicles. Patrols assigned areas to detect and deter crime. Assists other law enforcement agency personnel as needed. Serves on specialized task forces as assigned. Performs any other duties assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of civil and criminal processes. Knowledge of departmental and county policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local guidelines. Knowledge of county geography. Skill in the use of firearms and restraint equipment. Skill in operating emergency vehicles. Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions. Skill in the preparation of clear and precise administrative reports. Skill in oral and written communication. Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language. Minimum Qualifications Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution. Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education. Supplemental Information Complexity/Scope of Work The work consists of related criminal and civil service, security, and law enforcement duties. Potentially dangerous situations contribute to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to serve criminal and civil papers and to enforce laws. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency of court processes and to the enforcement of local, state, and federal laws. Physical Demands/Work Environment Occasionally Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, or poles. Moving oneself in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including tight and confined spaces. Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods. Adjusting or moving objects up to 50 pounds in all directions. Operating machinery and/or power tools. Working in low temperatures. Working in poor ventilation. Working in small and/or enclosed spaces. Working in adverse environmental conditions is expected. Light work that includes carrying objects up to 20 pounds. Medium work that includes carrying objects up to 50 pounds. Heavy work that includes carrying objects up to 100 pounds or more. Constantly Moving to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another. Communicating with others to exchange information. Repeating motions that may include the use of wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment. Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned. Driving a County vehicle or a personal vehicle for County business. Working in high temperatures. Outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind. Working in noisy environments. Working in hazardous conditions. Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing. Other Requirements/Information Must possess a valid and current Texas driver's license. Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this job. Pre-employment drug/alcohol testing, Motor Vehicle Record (MVR), and criminal background checks are required. This position is not covered under Civil Service; however, all other Webb County policies apply. Valid Texas Driver's License
