PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Police sergeants in the McAllen Independent School District (MISD) Police Department are commissioned peace officers assigned to operational/ support level supervisory positions. Duty hours and specific supervisory assignments are at the discretion of the Chief of Police or Police Captain. Sergeants are responsible for handling law enforcement matters throughout the district as enumerated in the McAllen ISD Police Department "Procedures Manual", Board of Trustees Policies, and applicable federal, state and local laws. Responsible for maintaining a safe and secure learning and work environment as per all applicable laws.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
High School Degree or equivalent, required Valid Texas Class C driver's license, required Advanced level of peace officer certification issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), required Peace officer certification in good standing with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), required
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Incident Command System Training 100 New Supervisors Course #3737 training Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing Possess the ability to be an effective problem solver Possess the ability to work alone and complete self-initiated activities Knowledge of local, state and federal laws Knowledge of district policies and police procedures TCOLE Instructor certified, preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of ten (10) years full time experience as a police officer Currently hold an Advanced Peace Officer License, required Certified as a TCOLE Instructor, preferred Prior experience in police supervision, preferred Experience in law enforcement specialties, such as crime scene investigation, criminal investigation, traffic accident investigation, tactical operations, crime prevention, required

Note:
Starting pay for a new hire in a pay range plan will be determined individually based on each person's job-related experience and salaries paid to peer employees in the same position with similar experience.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
1. Supervise corporals, police officers, and civilian police department employees within performance of their assigned duties. 2. Supervise police services with school officials, students, parents, and patrons. 3. Perform basic police officer duties, as required. 4. Serve as First Responder Commander during crisis events and as directed by the Chief of Police and Police Captain. 5. Perform special investigations as directed by the Chief of Police and Police Captain. 6. Serve as the department's representative on committees, as directed by the Chief of Police and Police Captain. 7. Supervise staff in compliance of the districts efforts toward establishing and monitoring campuses Safe School Plans. 8. Complete presentations to school officials, students, parents and patrons with regards to safe school and criminal justice issues. 9. Prepare work schedules, reports, evaluations, and other record keeping functions as their specific assignment may require. 10. Provide training to school official, students, parents, patrons, with regards to safe school and criminal justice issues. 11. Provide training to police department personnel with regard to the performance of their duties, district policies and police department procedures. 12. Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police and Police Captain. 13. Maintain confidentiality. 14. Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards. 15. Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor (primary evaluator).

Corporals, Investigators, Communication Officers, Emergency Management Officer, Electronic Equipment Technician, Investigators and Security Camera Monitors

WORKING CONDITIONS
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
While performing the duties of this job, it is required to maintain emotional control under stress, Strenuous and long periods of walking, standing, crawling, crouching , and climbing; ability to operate a motor vehicle; specific hearing and visual requirements 20/20 (corrected); ability to chase after someone (stamina), occasionally lift and/or move up to (100) pounds (assist someone to safety) control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. May be subject to adverse and hazardous working conditions including violent and armed confrontations. Work outdoors in varying climate conditions; drive in all different areas of district at odd hours; being placed on-call, rotating shifts; work alone and irregular hours including weekends and holidays.
