If you're ready to join the TSTC family and make great memories please complete our application process. Job DescriptionThe Police Officer occupies a staff position assigned to a Police Sergeant. The work involves enforcement of Federal, State, local laws and campus rules and regulations. Provides service, information and aid to all as circumstances require, suppress disturbances as well as security of persons and property. Responsible for enforcement duties for the protection, safety and welfare of students, employees, visitors, and all property within the areas under the control and jurisdiction of Texas State Technical College within the prescribed limits prescribed by law , Rules and Regulations of the Board of Regents, and institutional rules. Serves as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) as defined by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Statistics Act (Clery Act). Hiring Range is $27.67 - $30.43 USD Hourly.
The final salary offer will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.
Equivalent combination of education, training and relevant professional experience will be considered. Community Policing and Engagement
Serve as a community liaison by engaging with students, staff, and visitors. Support crime prevention and safety initiatives through visibility, education, and collaboration with campus groups and departments. Patrol and Enforcement
Patrol the campus and areas under institutional control to identify and address safety concerns, traffic violations, and potential criminal activity. Enforce laws and regulations and take appropriate enforcement actions. Investigations and Incident Response
Investigate crimes, accidents, and complaints. Secure scenes, collect evidence, and prepare reports. Testify in court as required and assist other agencies in collaborative efforts. Emergency and Safety Support
Respond to calls for service, medical aid, or disturbances. Maintain a visible presence to deter criminal activity. Use discretion in high-pressure or emergency situations, exercising sound judgment. Reporting and Compliance
Document all actions and incidents accurately. Maintain compliance with departmental standards and regulatory requirements. Utilize chain of command for policy guidance and clarification. Professional Standards and Readiness
Maintain police vehicle and equipment. Stay current with certifications and trainings as required by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), Clery Act, and departmental standards. Education & Experience Minimum Qualifications
Current permanent Peace Officer License from TCOLE
Successful completion of field training program
Experience not required with basic certification; experience considered in hiring decisions Certifications/Training Requirements (upon hire or within designated timeframe)
TCOLE Basic Certification
Clery Act Training (within 3 months)
Blood-borne Pathogens, First Aid, and CPR (within 6 months)
All Hazards Preparedness Training (within 1 year)
FEMA ICS-100, 200, 700, 800, and 907 (within 6 months)
CRASE Train-the-Trainer (within 6 months)
SAFVIC Certification (within 1 year)
ALERRT Certification (within 1 year)
Psychological evaluation, physical examination, and background clearance required Skills & Abilities Ability to work weekends and holidays and travel for departmental purposes
