  • Enforce federal, state, and local laws to protect life, property, and public safety
  • Prevent crime, maintain peace, and provide community-oriented policing services
  • Serve as a sworn officer regardless of rank or assignment________________________________________Core Responsibilities
  • Conduct proactive patrols (vehicle, foot, bicycle, or other methods)
  • Respond to calls for service, emergencies, and public requests
  • Investigate crimes, accidents, and suspicious activity
  • Identify, detain, and arrest individuals violating laws
  • Use appropriate and lawful force when necessary
  • Preserve crime scenes and collect/document evidence
  • Conduct interviews with victims, witnesses, and suspects
  • Enforce traffic laws; investigate collisions and assist motorists
  • Prepare accurate, detailed reports and maintain records
  • Serve legal documents (summons, subpoenas, notices)
  • Transport and manage prisoners safely________________________________________Knowledge & Compliance
  • Maintain working knowledge of: Laws, ordinances, and case law Department policies and procedures

  • Maintain certifications, training, and firearm proficiency________________________________________Community & Interagency Engagement
  • Build positive relationships with: Community members, businesses, and schools Other law enforcement agencies and city departments
  • Participate in public relations and community policing efforts
  • Collaborate with prosecutors, social services, and partner organizations________________________________________Specialized & Additional Duties
  • May serve in specialized roles (e.g., Detective, K-9, SWAT, Traffic, FTO)
  • May act as Field Training Officer or temporary supervisor (OIC)
  • Maintain and properly use all department equipment
  • Respond to emergency call-outs and critical incidents
  • Work varied shifts (nights, weekends, holidays)
  • Additional related duties, responsibilities, and tasks as assigned. Essential Qualifications
  • Must be Utah
POST LEO
Certified, or able to become so within six (6) months of date of hire
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must possess a valid Utah Driver's License or obtain a Utah Drivers License prior to date of hire
  • Must pass a comprehensive background investigation and psychological evaluation
  • Must be willing and able to respond to, or work assigned shifts, days, holidays as part of regular shift assignments or as needed to meet departmental staffing needs. Benefits and Compensation
  • Entry Level (Probationary) salary is $33.11/hr
  • Years of service as an LEO will be considered on a year for year basis. Corrections experience may also be considered at the discretion of the Chief of Police
  • The City of North Salt Lake fully participates in the Utah Public Safety Retirement System and makes all contributions to on behalf of the employee
