Job Description

•A Deputy of the Pend Oreille County Sheriff's Office, as defined RCW 36.28.020, and as such possesses all the power and may perform any of the duties, prescribed by law to be performed by the Sheriff. Deputies are subject to the direct supervision of the Sergeant assigned to their patrol shift and are responsible for the preservation of the public peace, protection of life and property, prevention of crime, investigation of crimes, the arrest of violators of the law, the proper enforcement of all laws and ordinances of the County, State, and the United States, and adherence to the Sheriff's Rules, Regulations and Procedures. Shall remain available and ready for call at all times during their tour of duty; shall perform vehicular patrol of the county, being alert to indicators of criminal behavior, persons in distress, or other matters of importance to public safety and respond to these problems appropriately; shall respond to calls for service as directed by a supervisor or from the radio communications center.

There are currently no vacancies; applications will be retained on file for one year. No experience is required for entry. Laterals, please see the exam announcement for requirements. Full Salary Range (monthly): Step 1 $5,472.80 Step 2 $5,701.81 Step 3 $5,927.89 Step 4 $6,156.90 Step 5 $6,405.00

Starting salary:
Entry Level at Step 1, $5,472.80/month., Laterals at Step 2, $5,701.81/month. to Step 4, $6,156.90/month., DOE. Physical Agility Test (PAT) &
Written Exam:
Both the physical and written exams are now done through Public Safety Testing. You can sign up at www.publicsafetytesting.com for your physical and written exam. Once the exam has been taken you can reach out to the Civil Service Chief Examiner for your next steps.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
required of all applicants prior to entering the classified service are: 1. Must be a U.S. citizen, a lawful permanent resident, or a deferred action for childhood arrivals recipient (RCW 41.14.100) at the time of appointment. 2. Must speak the English language clearly, fluently, and at a normal conversational rate. 3. Must read, write legibly, and spell correctly in the English language. 4. Must possess a High School diploma or equivalent. 5. Must be at least eighteen years of age at the time of appointment (21 years of age for Deputies, Court Security Officers, and Jailers). 6. Must pass a polygraph examination to determine if the applicant is prone to violating the laws of Washington State or of the United States. 7. Must submit to a psychological evaluation to determine the applicant's suitability for employment in the position being sought. 8. Must cooperate in a background investigation to determine the applicant's suitability for employment in the position being sought.
