The ideal candidate will combine substantial courtroom experience with strong legal research and writing skills, the ability to manage large caseloads and discovery, and the leadership to mentor junior attorneys. This role will support highstakes litigation, coordinate with experts, and advance strategic case goals while maintaining excellent client communication and case management practices. Key Responsibilities Manage a robust civil litigation caseload from intake through resolution, including developing case strategy and timelines. Draft and file pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests and responses, settlement proposals, and other litigation documents with clear, persuasive legal writing. Prepare for and conduct depositions, evidentiary hearings, and trials; prepare witnesses and coordinate trial logistics and exhibit presentation. Lead and coordinate discovery efforts, including e-discovery workflows, document review, subpoenas, expert retention, and written discovery responses. Supervise and mentor junior associates, paralegals, and contract staff; delegate tasks and review work product for quality and compliance with firm standards.
Manage client relationships:
provide regular case updates, advise on litigation risks and strategy, and assist with client development efforts. Collaborate with opposing counsel, experts, and vendors to advance case objectives and manage budgets and vendor invoices. Maintain calendaring and case management systems, meet all court deadlines, and ensure compliance with local rules and procedures. Participate in settlement negotiations and alternative dispute resolution processes; prepare mediation briefs and settlement documentation. Contribute to firm knowledge sharing through training, practice group meetings, and drafting precedential pleadings and practice memos. Qualifications Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to practice in the relevant state(s); active bar membership required. 2+ years of civil litigation experience in a law firm or government setting with a demonstrated track record managing complex matters. Proven litigation skillset, including courtroom experience, trial preparation and advocacy, and effective deposition practice. Excellent legal research and writing skills with a record of drafting persuasive motions, briefs and trial documents. Strong case management abilities and familiarity with litigation support tools, e-discovery platforms, and document review workflows. Demonstrated client management skills and professional judgment in high-pressure settings; ability to work independently and lead teams. Outstanding oral advocacy, negotiation, and interpersonal communication skills. Willingness and ability to travel for hearings, depositions, and court appearances as needed. Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong sense of empathy for clients facing severe health crises.
