Job Description

Atkinson Andelson Loya Ruud & Romo (AALRR) is an AmLaw 200 law firm with a state-wide presence and nine offices, including four in Northern California. Our Public Entity Labor & Employment (PELE) Practice Group in Marin is expanding, and we are seeking one Associate Attorney (1-6 years of experience) to join a high-performing team representing public entity clients throughout California. Key Responsibilities Associates in this role will gain immediate client-facing experience and the opportunity to work on high-profile matters for public agencies.
Responsibilities include:
Supporting litigation in trial and appellate courts, including discovery, depositions, motion practice, mediations, and settlement negotiations. Advising public employers on day-to-day employment law issues, including
ADA/FEHA
accommodations, FMLA/CFRA compliance, FLSA wage/hour matters, and workplace policies. Assisting with workplace investigations, drafting reports, and supporting senior attorneys in complex fact-finding processes. Participating in administrative hearings before arbitrators and PERB. Supporting labor relations work, including responding to union requests for information, assisting with meet-and-confer obligations, preparing discipline notices, and drafting Skelly decisions. Drafting contracts, separation agreements, position statement responses, policies, and client advisories. Researching and drafting legal opinions for public agency clients on employment and governance issues.
Qualifications Experience:
1-6 years of labor and employment law or litigation experience (public-sector focus a plus).
Skills:
Excellent research and writing ability, strong client communication skills, and the confidence to handle client matters with limited supervision.
Academic Background:
Top 30% of law school class preferred; graduates from UC Berkeley, UC Law SF, UC Davis, Santa Clara, USF, or other highly regarded law schools encouraged to apply.
