We're looking for a trial-tested litigator or seasoned General Counsel who's ready to roll up their sleeves, get in the room, and get things done. If you've been grinding in private practice and you're ready to step into something where you have real ownership, real impact, and the freedom to build something — this is it. You'll serve as the top legal officer for a Southern California-headquartered company with over 5,000 employees and job site operations spanning the country. That footprint means real complexity — multi-state compliance, a diverse workforce, and legal questions that don't fit neatly into one box. You'll partner directly with senior leadership to drive smart, strategic decisions that move the business forward while keeping risk in check. You won't just advise — you'll be a true business partner with a seat at the table. What You'll Own Litigation — You're not afraid of the courtroom. You'll take cases to trial when necessary, manage disputes from inception through resolution across multiple jurisdictions, and know when to fight and when to settle. Outside Counsel Management — You'll direct and manage external counsel relationships nationwide, holding firms accountable to strategy, budget, and outcomes. Corporate Contracts — Draft, negotiate, and close complex commercial agreements. You understand deal structure and can move quickly without sacrificing precision. Multi-State Legal Risk — With employees and operations across the U.S., you'll navigate the patchwork of federal, state, and local laws affecting a large, geographically distributed workforce and business. Strategic Legal Partnership — Work hand-in-hand with the executive team to identify legal risk before it becomes a legal problem. You'll help shape decisions, not just react to them. Team Leadership — You'll inherit a capable legal staff and an Assistant General Counsel who serves as your right hand, with a primary focus on employment law matters. You'll have the autonomy and support to grow and build your team as the business evolves. Employment Law (Working Knowledge) — You don't need to be a labor attorney, but with 5,000+ employees across multiple states, you should be comfortable spotting employment issues, partnering with your AGC, and knowing when to escalate. Who You Are A litigator or GC who wants to come in-house and make a real impact — not just advise, but execute Hands-on, resourceful, and not above doing the work yourself when the situation calls for it A confident courtroom presence who will go to trial if and when necessary A sharp negotiator who can protect the business without blowing up relationships Someone who thrives in complexity — multi-state operations, a large and diverse workforce, and a fast-moving business environment don't rattle you A collaborative leader who brings legal staff along and builds high-performing teams Comfortable being a visible, onsite presence at HQ and a trusted partner to leadership across the organization What We're Looking For JD from an accredited law school; active California State Bar membership required Meaningful experience in litigation, corporate contracts, and general business law — we care more about the quality of your experience than the number of years Trial experience — you've seen cases through verdict and know what it takes Demonstrated ability to manage outside counsel and hold firms to strategy and budget Experience navigating multi-state legal and regulatory environments is a strong plus Working familiarity with employment law; enough to partner effectively with your AGC across a 5,000+ person workforce Strong business instincts — you understand that legal decisions are business decisions Mid-level to senior candidates welcome — a driven mid-career attorney will be considered over a complacent senior one Why This Role You'll have real authority, a strong support structure, and the freedom to shape how legal operates within a growing company.
