J.D. or LL.B. from an ABA-accredited law school. Must be a member of the Florida Bar or become a member within twelve months of employment.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Employee advises and conducts interviews with UF students on a variety of legal matters that include, but are not limited to, criminal and traffic charges, property damage, insurance matters, power of attorneys, living wills, and other general civil matters. Successful incumbent will have practiced in a high-volume caseload environment and be able to successfully advise students on a wide variety of consumer related issues. The attorney communicates with clients, opposing parties, attorneys and others to negotiate resolutions to the legal matters being handled. Employee represents UF students involved in landlord-tenant, dissolution of marriage, adoption, name change, and sealing/expunction of criminal records matters, including litigation before local courts in accordance with program guidelines. Employee provides input to the Director as needed for policy-making and interpretation related to employee's primary areas of responsibility and for the program in general. Employee develops and presents legal educational opportunities and outreach programs, including presentations to large groups of UF students. Provides notary services and performs limited clerical duties. Contributes to the Division and University through active participation on committees and division-wide initiatives; and other duties as assigned. Monday through Friday, 08:00 AM to 05:00 PM with occasional after-hours events such as presentations.
EXPECTED SALARY
$70,000 to $72,000 Annual Salary
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
J.D. or LL.B. from an ABA-accredited law school. Must be a member of the Florida Bar or become a member within twelve months of employment.
PREFERRED
Experience in a not-for-profit legal environment. Proficient in MS Word and Outlook. Ability to communicate and negotiate successfully with opposing parties Ability to work cooperatively in a small office environment. Ability to refer students to additional support programs as necessary. Demonstrable patience and consideration in helping students from diverse backgrounds deal with legal issues
