Job Description
Senior Associate Attorney - Labor and EmploymentPosition Overview We are seeking an experienced Senior Associate Attorney to join our Labor and Employment practice. The ideal candidate will manage complex employment litigation and counseling matters, advise clients on workplace compliance and risk management, and contribute to business development and mentoring within the team. This role requires strong courtroom and motion practice experience, excellent client-facing skills, and the ability to independently manage a substantial case load while supervising junior attorneys and support staff.
Key ResponsibilitiesManage all phases of employment litigation including drafting pleadings, motions, discovery, and trial briefs; take and defend depositions; and argue motions in court and before administrative agencies (EEOC, NLRB, state agencies).Provide practical, business-focused counseling to employers on compliance with federal and state labor and employment laws, including wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, wage and hour, FMLA, ADA, and leave issues.
Conduct internal investigations into employee complaints, prepare investigation reports, and recommend remediation and policy updates to clients.
Develop case strategy, evaluate exposure, and negotiate settlements and alternative dispute resolution to achieve favorable outcomes for clients.
Supervise and mentor junior associates, paralegals, and support staff; review work product for quality and accuracy; delegate tasks and provide timely feedback.
Manage client relationships, maintain regular communication, and present case updates and strategic recommendations clearly and professionally.
Participate in business development activities including client pitches, seminars, and thought leadership to grow the practice.
Manage matter budgets, billing, and timekeeping expectations; ensure timely and accurate client invoicing and meet firm performance metrics.
Stay current on developments in labor and employment law and disseminate relevant updates and best practices to colleagues and clients.
QualificationsJuris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to practice in the relevant state(s).5+ years of experience practicing labor and employment law with a focus on litigation and counseling for employer clients at a law firm or in-house legal department.
Proven litigation experience including motion practice, depositions, arbitration, and trial or dispositive hearing experience preferred.
Substantive knowledge of federal and state employment statutes and regulations (Title VII, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, NLRA, state wage and hour laws).Excellent legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills, with the ability to craft persuasive briefs and present complex legal issues clearly to clients and tribunals.
Strong client service orientation, with demonstrated ability to manage client expectations and build trusted relationships.
Demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor junior attorneys and support staff effectively.
Comfortable with e-discovery platforms, case management systems, and standard office technology; strong organizational and time management skills.
Business development aptitude, including confidence in client-facing presentations and contributing to the firms growth initiatives.
Professionalism, sound judgment, ability to handle confidential matters, and a collaborative mindset.
