The Clayton Judicial Circuit is seeking to hire an Assistant Public Defender 4. This position primarily involves representing indigent clients in criminal matters before Superior Court. Qualified candidates must possess the skills and experience necessary to effectively carry out the duties and responsibilities of the role. Responsibilities include preparing and trying cases, negotiating and entering pleas, conducting legal research, and drafting and presenting complex legal documents such as pleadings and orders. Applicants must demonstrate substantial criminal litigation and jury trial experience. Candidates must also be in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia and show a strong commitment to indigent defense work. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The Assistant Public Defender 4 serves as a senior-level attorney and is expected to exercise sound legal judgment while handling challenging and high-impact appellate matters. The ideal candidate will possess outstanding legal research, writing, analytical, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple cases and meet strict filing deadlines. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Juris Doctorate in a related area from an accredited college or university and license to practice law in the State of Georgia or eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination followed by Georgia Bar exam passage and licensure to practice law in the State of Georgia within one (1) year of hiring or reciprocity and three (3) years of relevant legal experience; or three (3) years of experience required at the lower-level Attorney 3 (LEP022).
