Job Description

Overview We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Managing Attorney to lead our first-party property damage practice in Hawaii. This leadership role offers the opportunity to oversee high-value insurance claim matters involving hurricanes, hail, wind, fire, water, tornado, and other property losses while helping policyholders recover what they are rightfully owed under their insurance policies. The Managing Attorney will play a critical role in supervising litigation strategy, guiding legal operations, and driving exceptional client outcomes in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment. As the leader of our Hawaii practice, you will champion client advocacy, legal excellence, operational efficiency, and strategic growth while maintaining the highest ethical and professional standards. Duties Oversee and manage a docket of first-party property damage insurance claims from intake through resolution, including pre-suit negotiations, appraisal matters, bad faith disputes, and litigation. Lead and supervise attorneys, paralegals, case managers, and intake staff to ensure efficient case handling and exceptional client service. Develop litigation and settlement strategies for complex property insurance disputes involving residential, commercial, and large-loss claims. Provide legal guidance regarding insurance coverage issues, policy interpretation, bad faith claims, and applicable state insurance regulations. Conduct and oversee legal research, motion practice, pleadings, discovery, mediations, depositions, and trial preparation. Negotiate with insurance carriers, opposing counsel, experts, public adjusters, contractors, and other stakeholders to achieve favorable outcomes for clients. Ensure compliance with all applicable ethical rules, court procedures, and state-specific legal requirements. Collaborate with experts including engineers, estimators, roofing consultants, forensic accountants, and damage consultants to support claim development and litigation strategy. Manage relationships with co-counsel, referral partners, and outside vendors when necessary. Assist with the development and implementation of operational systems, workflows, KPIs, and case management procedures to support scalable growth. Stay current on evolving insurance laws, bad faith statutes, litigation trends, and regulatory developments affecting first-party property damage claims. Skills & Qualifications Extensive experience handling first-party property insurance claims and related litigation. Strong knowledge of insurance coverage analysis, bad faith law, civil litigation procedures, and dispute resolution strategies. Proven leadership experience managing attorneys and legal support staff in a high-volume legal environment. Excellent negotiation and litigation skills with a demonstrated ability to drive favorable case outcomes. Strong legal writing, analytical, and communication skills. Proficiency with legal research platforms such as LexisNexis and Westlaw. Ability to manage complex case portfolios while maintaining strong organizational and administrative oversight. Experience working with experts, adjusters, contractors, and consultants in property damage matters is strongly preferred. Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to contribute to firm growth, operational strategy, and team development. Licensed and in good standing in Hawaii (multi-state licensure is a plus).
