This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated legal professional who is passionate about public service, committed to fair and ethical prosecution, and energized by meaningful work that directly impacts our community. As a key member of the City Attorney's Office, you will lead misdemeanor prosecution efforts, provide trusted legal guidance to law enforcement and City departments, and help shape the policies and practices that support a safe, just, and well functioning city. Responsibilities In this dynamic and highly responsible role, you will: Prosecute a high volume of misdemeanor cases on behalf of the City, working closely with defendants, defense counsel, court staff, and law enforcement to ensure fair and efficient case resolution. Supervise and mentor prosecutors, support staff, and interns, fostering professional development and ensuring smooth coordination with municipal court and police personnel. Serve as a legal advisor to law enforcement and City departments on municipal criminal law, procedures, and related issues. Conduct legal research and prepare well reasoned legal opinions, position papers, and guidance for City staff. Draft and review legal documents related to municipal court operations and prosecution activities. Collaborate with the City Attorney on City legal issues, ordinance updates, and prosecution responsibilities.
What You Bring:

Successful candidates will demonstrate:
Strong knowledge of criminal, constitutional, municipal, and personnel law. Skill in written and oral communication, legal research, and analysis. Ability to present legal arguments clearly and logically. Capacity to build cooperative relationships and work effectively with diverse stakeholders. Sound decision making aligned with laws, regulations, and City policies. Professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to public service.
Experience & Qualifications:
Two (2) years of experience in criminal prosecution. Juris Doctor from an accredited law school. Active attorney's license for the state of Kansas. Why Join Us?
