Start Date:
As soon as practicable About the Firm Mignini, Raab, Demuth, Murahari & Melanson, LLP is a growing Maryland law firm that primarily represents individuals seeking Social Security Disability benefits. The firm has served the Baltimore metropolitan area since 1977 and has handled complex federal court Social Security appeals for more than 35 years. Our extensive federal appellate experience provides the firm with a distinctive understanding of Social Security Disability law, administrative decision-making, and the development of persuasive medical evidence. We use that experience at every stage of a client's claim, from the initial intake and administrative proceedings through Appeals Council review and federal court litigation. We are seeking a compassionate, motivated, and detail-oriented associate attorney to join our collaborative, fast-paced, supportive, and family-oriented practice. Position Overview The associate attorney will represent clients throughout the Social Security Disability claims and appeals process. The successful candidate will conduct client intake, prepare cases for administrative hearings, appear before administrative law judges, analyze medical records, develop supporting evidence, and assist with written appeals. The associate will work closely with the firm's attorneys and coordinate with paralegals and other staff members. The position also offers opportunities to handle Appeals Council arguments, federal district court briefs, and other complex appellate matters. The associate will primarily work from the firm's Towson and Bel Air offices and must be available to travel between offices based on the firm's needs. Hearings are primarily conducted virtually, although occasional travel for in-person hearings and other professional obligations will be required. Primary Responsibilities Conduct prospective-client and new-client intake conferences. Communicate directly and compassionately with clients from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. Review, organize, and analyze medical records and other evidentiary materials. Identify the medical, vocational, and legal evidence necessary to strengthen clients' disability claims. Prepare clients and case files for administrative hearings. Represent clients at hearings before Social Security administrative law judges. Draft hearing memoranda, Appeals Council arguments, federal court briefs, and other legal documents. Conduct legal research concerning Social Security Disability law and related administrative and federal appellate issues. Coordinate case development and hearing preparation with attorneys, paralegals, and support staff. Supervise and provide guidance to paralegals and other staff as appropriate. Manage an existing caseload efficiently while meeting deadlines and maintaining regular client communication. Assist with the continued growth of the firm and have the opportunity to generate and develop new business. Qualifications Active admission and good standing with the bar of at least one state. Admission to the Maryland Bar is strongly preferred. One to two or more years of attorney experience is preferred. Prior Social Security Disability experience is preferred. Attorneys with relevant experience in personal injury, workers' compensation, veterans' disability, administrative law, medical-record litigation, or another related field are encouraged to apply. Experience preparing Appeals Council arguments, federal court briefs, or other appellate filings is preferred. Strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills. Ability to review complicated medical records and effectively present medical evidence in written and oral arguments. Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage a high-volume caseload. Professional judgment, organization, reliability, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with clients from different backgrounds and circumstances. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and modern case-management technology. Experience with Clio or similar case-management software is preferred. Familiarity with responsible uses of artificial intelligence in legal practice is a plus. Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel between the Towson and Bel Air offices and to occasional in-person hearings. Training and Mentoring The firm is willing to train an attorney who has strong litigation, legal-writing, or medical-record analysis experience but has not previously practiced Social Security Disability law. The selected attorney will receive mentoring from experienced attorneys and will have the opportunity to observe and shadow administrative hearings before assuming primary responsibility for a hearing caseload. As the associate gains experience, the attorney may take on Appeals Council matters, federal district court briefing, and other complex appeals. Schedule The regular work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The position is full-time and in person. Occasional evening or weekend work may be necessary to meet hearing, briefing, or other case-related deadlines. Compensation and Benefits The anticipated salary range is $90,000•140,000 annually , commensurate with the selected candidate's experience and qualifications.
