Bankruptcy Petition Preparer Charlotte, NC 28262 From $20 an hour - Full-time From $20 an hour - Full-time About Our Firm We are a dedicated solo consumer bankruptcy practice focused exclusively on helping individuals and families navigate financial hardship through Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy. Our clients come to us during some of the most stressful times of their lives, and we take pride in providing them with compassionate, professional, and thorough representation. We are growing and seeking a detail-oriented Bankruptcy Petition Preparer to join our small but mighty team. Position Overview The Bankruptcy Petition Preparer is a critical role in our practice. You will serve as the primary point of contact for clients during the document-gathering phase and will be responsible for preparing accurate, complete, and court-ready bankruptcy petitions and schedules. This role requires a highly organized individual who can manage multiple client files simultaneously while maintaining an exceptional level of accuracy and professionalism. Key Responsibilities Contact clients via phone and email to collect required financial documents (tax returns, pay stubs, bank statements, bills, etc.) Review and organize client documents to ensure completeness and accuracy prior to petition preparation Accurately prepare Chapter 7 and/or Chapter 13 bankruptcy petitions, schedules, statements, and related forms using case management software Communicate clearly with clients to explain document requirements, follow up on missing items, and provide status updates Maintain organized and up-to-date electronic client files Track deadlines and manage workflow across multiple active cases simultaneously Coordinate with the supervising attorney on case-specific questions, exemptions, and legal strategy Ensure all petitions comply with applicable federal bankruptcy rules and local court requirements Maintain strict client confidentiality at all times Required Qualifications Exceptional attention to detail — accuracy is non-negotiable in this role Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain complex processes in plain language to clients Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple deadlines without close supervision Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and comfort learning new legal software platforms High degree of professionalism, empathy, and discretion when working with clients in financial distress Reliable, organized, and self-motivated work ethic Preferred Qualifications Prior experience in a bankruptcy law firm or legal support role Familiarity with bankruptcy case management software (e.g., Best Case, Stretto, or similar) Knowledge of federal bankruptcy forms, schedules, and means test calculations Experience with Chapter 7 and/or Chapter 13 petition preparation What We Offer Collaborative, supportive work environment within a small practice Base compensation plus incentives Typical hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (some flexibility) No weekends Major holidays off How to Apply We have a two-step application process designed to identify candidates who follow directions and communicate well — two skills essential to this role.
