Iredell County Overview & Purpose:
The General Counsel Oversees and Supervises All Aspects of Internal Day-To-Day Legal Matters Related to The Organization, Governance, Management and Ongoing Services Provided by Iredell County. Under the General Supervision of The County Manager, Performs Difficult Professional Work Providing Legal Assistance to County Departments with An Emphasis on Contract and Human Resource Law.

Primary Duties:
Act as Primary Point-Of-Contact for All County Departments on Legal Matters Pertaining to Human Resources, Contracting, and Public Records Requests. Review Public Records Requests and Redacts Any Responsive Records. Draft and Review Contracts for All County Departments. Receive and Respond to Legal Questions and Research Requests from All Areas of County Government Pertaining to Emphasis Areas. Consult with County Attorney and Outside Legal Counsel as Appropriate. Perform Related Tasks as Required. Secondary Duties, if Requested by
The County Attorney:
Represent the County in Court; Argues Cases. Draft and File Motions and Petitions. Draft Resolutions, Regulations, Special Legislation, and Ordinances. Attend Board of Commissioners Meetings.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Thorough Knowledge of Modern Principles and Practices of Local and State Laws and Court Decisions Pertaining to Local Government; Thorough Knowledge of Legal Research and The Investigation, Preparation and Presentation of Cases for Trial; Thorough Knowledge of Legal Office Procedures, Practices and Methods; Ability to Communicate Complex Ideas Effectively, Both Orally and In Writing; Ability to Establish and Maintain Effective Working Relationships with Departments, Court Officials, Members of The Bar, Clients and The General Public; Ability to Handle Trial Litigation; Ability to Prepare and Render Legal Opinions; Strong Understanding of Employment Law; Considerable Knowledge of The Principles of Administrative and Constitutional Law; Knowledge of Federal Law.
Typical Qualifications:
Education/experience "requirements": Juris Doctorate from A Law School Accredited by The American Association of Law Schools and Five (5) Years Practicing Law in A Local Government in North Carolina; or An Equivalent Combination of Education and Experience. North Carolina County Experience Is Highly Desirable. Requires a North Carolina State Bar License, Valid North Carolina Driver License, and Good Record. Additional "requirements": Licensed to Practice Law and In Good Standing in The State of North Carolina and Possession of All Other Qualifications as Prescribed by State Statute. Possession of An Appropriate Driver's License Valid in The State of North Carolina. "preferred"
