Junior Attorney — Criminal Defense Litigation Salem, Oregon | Full-Time A unique opportunity to become a criminal-defense litigator We are seeking a motivated Junior Attorney to join our Salem-based litigation practice. This is an exceptional opportunity for an attorney who is serious about building a career as a criminal-defense trial lawyer and wants to learn directly from one of Salem's most respected and accomplished litigators . Our firm is intentionally small, which means you will not be one of dozens of associates competing for courtroom experience. You will work closely with the firm's owner and senior attorney, gain meaningful exposure to complex litigation, and have the opportunity to develop the skills required to become an effective, confident courtroom advocate. We believe great trial lawyers are developed through hands-on experience, close mentorship, preparation, and repetition . This position is designed around that philosophy. You will have the opportunity to observe and participate in the strategic and practical aspects of litigation that are difficult to learn from a textbook or in a large firm environment. About the Firm Our practice focuses on high-stakes litigation, with an emphasis on: Criminal Defense Personal Injury Ballot Measure 11 Drug Crimes Sex Crimes Federal Crimes Wrongful Death The firm represents clients facing significant consequences and takes a highly personal, strategic approach to each case. Our attorneys are expected to be exceptional advocates, thorough in their preparation, and committed to achieving the best possible outcome for every client. About the Opportunity The successful candidate will work directly with an experienced trial attorney and progressively assume greater responsibility as their skills develop.
Responsibilities may include:
Appearing in court for hearings, arraignments, motions, and other proceedings Assisting with and ultimately taking responsibility for criminal-defense cases Conducting legal research and preparing motions, briefs, and other pleadings Participating in discovery and case investigation Interviewing clients and witnesses Preparing for hearings and trials Assisting with trial strategy and trial preparation Negotiating with prosecutors and opposing counsel Participating in depositions and other litigation proceedings Reviewing evidence and developing case theories Communicating directly with clients regarding their cases Working closely with senior attorneys on complex litigation Developing the ability to independently manage cases and courtroom responsibilities The amount of responsibility will increase as the attorney demonstrates proficiency, judgment, and courtroom readiness. Who We Are Looking For We are looking for an attorney who is: Licensed to practice law in Oregon, or eligible for Oregon admission 0-2 years of legal experience , although exceptional candidates with additional experience are welcome Genuinely interested in pursuing a career in criminal defense and trial litigation An excellent legal researcher, writer and communicator Highly motivated and intellectually curious Comfortable working in a demanding litigation environment Organized and detail-oriented; able to handle multiple matters and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment Able to work independently while seeking guidance when appropriate Comfortable interacting directly with clients Professional, dependable, and committed to the highest standards of advocacy Willing to put in the preparation necessary to become an excellent trial lawyer Prior criminal-defense, trial advocacy, or courtroom experience is a plus, but not required .
Compensation & Benefits Salary:
