Description:
Blizzard and Zimmerman Attorneys is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Associate Attorney to join our team. This full-time, in-office position is ideal for a motivated legal professional with a passion for criminal law and legal research and writing. The role will primarily focus on criminal post-conviction relief cases (approximately 2/3 of the workload) and criminal defense pre-trial/trial (approximately 1/3 of the workload). As an Associate Attorney, you will play a critical role in advocating for clients, conducting legal research, drafting motions, and representing clients in court. This is an excellent opportunity to grow your legal career in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Criminal Post-Conviction Relief Cases (2/3 of workload): Conduct in-depth legal research and analysis to identify potential grounds for post-conviction relief. Draft and file briefs, applications, motions, and petitions related to direct appeals and habeas relief. Review trial records, transcripts, and evidence to identify errors or constitutional violations. Represent clients in post-conviction arguments and hearings. Criminal Defense Pre-Trial/Trial (1/3 of workload): Represent clients in all stages of criminal defense, including plea hearings, pre-trial hearings, and trials. Develop and execute defense strategies tailored to each client's case. Conduct client interviews, witness preparation, and evidence review. Negotiate with prosecutors to achieve favorable outcomes for clients.
General Duties:
Maintain regular communication with clients, providing updates and guidance throughout their cases. Collaborate with other attorneys and staff to ensure thorough case preparation and effective representation. Stay current on legal developments and changes in criminal law. Manage a caseload efficiently while meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality work.
Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school. Active license to practice law in the state of Texas (or ability to obtain licensure promptly). Strong interest and/or experience in criminal law, particularly post-conviction relief and criminal defense pre-trial/trial. Excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Work Environment:
This is a full-time, in-office position located at Blizzard and Zimmerman Attorneys. Remote work is not available for this role.
Compensation:
Salary is negotiable and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits package to be discussed during the interview process.
