Early-Career Attorney (2-5 Years Experience)Fractional /
Part-Time General Counsel Location:
Chicagoland Area (Hybrid/Flexible)
Compensation:
Approximately $75/hour | Retained Part-Time Position | Significant Growth Potential This Opportunity Is Designed for the Right Early-Career Attorney If you're 2-5 years into your legal career and looking for far more responsibility than your current position provides, this opportunity was written for you. Perhaps you're at a large or mid-sized law firm doing excellent work, but you're only seeing one small piece of a transaction. Maybe you're ready to move beyond researching isolated issues and instead become involved in real business decisions from beginning to end. This is not a document review position. This is not a support role. This is a rare opportunity to work directly with ownership as a fractional General Counsel , helping build and protect a growing group of businesses while gaining exposure to a remarkably broad range of legal matters. If you're ambitious, intellectually curious, entrepreneurial, and eager to grow, we'd love to meet you. About Us We are a privately held, owner-operated group of businesses spanning real estate, property management, and commercial services. We're growing steadily and deliberately—building something for the long term rather than chasing short-term wins. Ownership is deeply involved in every aspect of the business, and we believe in surrounding ourselves with smart, motivated people who want meaningful responsibility from day one. We're looking for someone who wants to become part of that journey. The Opportunity We're creating a fractional, part-time retained General Counsel position with a mutually agreed minimum number of billable hours each year. As our businesses continue to grow, we expect this relationship to grow as well, potentially developing into a much larger long-term role for the right attorney. You'll work directly with ownership—not several layers removed from decision makers. You'll help identify legal issues before they become problems, structure transactions correctly, reduce risk, and participate in business strategy from the beginning. You'll have the opportunity to take ownership of projects from start to finish while building experience that many attorneys don't receive until much later in their careers. What You'll Work On Our legal work is broad, practical, and genuinely interesting.
Examples include:
Commercial and business law Contract drafting, review, and negotiation Corporate governance and entity structuring Real estate transactions and closings Zoning, land use, and municipal matters Licensing and regulatory compliance Employment matters Estate planning and asset protection Healthcare and nursing home regulations Constitutional and civil rights questions Commercial litigation coordination Government agency matters and administrative law No attorney is expected to already be an expert in every one of these areas. We're looking for someone with strong analytical instincts, excellent research skills, intellectual curiosity, and the judgment to recognize when outside specialists should be involved. You won't be expected to personally litigate every matter or possess expertise in every specialty. Instead, you'll help coordinate legal strategy, work with outside counsel when appropriate, and become a trusted advisor to ownership. Who You Are Licensed to practice law in Illinois (required) Approximately 2-5 years of legal experience Experience at a mid-sized or large law firm is a plus Broad generalist mindset—curious, adaptable, and eager to learn Strong legal researcher and analytical thinker Excellent writer and communicator Practical, business-minded, and solution-oriented Entrepreneurial—you enjoy building, not simply billing hours Interested in developing a long-term relationship with ownership Technology & AI We believe modern legal practice combines sound legal judgment with effective use of technology. Candidates should be comfortable leveraging AI-assisted legal research tools to improve efficiency while exercising independent professional judgment and carefully verifying the accuracy of their work. What We Offer Approximately $75/hour starting compensation, based on experience Flexible schedule Hybrid work arrangement Direct access to ownership and meaningful business decisions Exposure to a broader range of legal issues in one year than many associates encounter in several years A genuine opportunity to grow as our businesses expand A collaborative ownership team that values thoughtful legal counsel and is committed to investing in the right long-term relationship More Than Anything... We're looking for someone who enjoys thinking. Someone who likes solving difficult problems. Someone who questions assumptions, researches unfamiliar issues, and enjoys working side-by-side with ownership to build stronger businesses. If that sounds like you, we'd love to have a conversation.
