If you are not currently licensed and in good standing with the WSBA, please do not apply — this is a strict requirement with no exceptions. Cowlitz Group and Birch Bay Law Group, affiliated Washington law firms based in Vancouver, Washington, are engaging a contract attorney to support active family law and estate litigation caseloads on a matter-by-matter basis. This is a fully remote position open to licensed Washington attorneys anywhere in the United States.
The work:
drafting pleadings, motions, and declarations in dissolution, parenting plan, child support, and protection order matters (RCW 26.09, 26.19, 26.26A, 7.105); discovery, including financial discovery; hearing preparation and court appearances; and estate litigation support, including TEDRA proceedings, will contests, and guardianship and conservatorship matters (RCW 11.96A and Title 11 RCW). Careful research (Westlaw or Lexis) and precise, court-ready drafting are the core of the role.
Requirements:
Active license to practice law in Washington and good standing with the WSBA (required). Three or more years of family law and/or estate litigation experience preferred. Strong research and drafting skills. Ability to manage assigned matters reliably within the firms' supervision and conflict-screening protocols.
Engagement terms:
Independent contractor engagement, compensated hourly at up to $200 per hour depending on experience, engaged by matter or project. Scheduling is flexible; work is performed fully remotely, with Washington court appearances as required (travel coordinated with the firms). Candidates will complete a conflicts screening before any assignment.
