Job Description

Overview We are seeking a dynamic and highly experienced General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer to lead our legal and compliance functions. This pivotal role requires a strategic thinker with a comprehensive understanding of diverse legal areas, including estate planning, environmental law, immigration law, landlord-tenant law, family law, securities law, workers' compensation law, personal injury law, tribal law and regulations, litigation, patent law, and legal research tools such as LexisNexis and Westlaw. The ideal candidate will serve as the organization's top legal advisor, ensuring all operations adhere to applicable laws and regulations while proactively managing legal risks. This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape our legal strategy and foster a culture of integrity and compliance across all levels of the organization. Responsibilities Provide expert legal guidance on a broad spectrum of issues including estate planning, environmental law, immigration law, landlord-tenant disputes, family law matters, securities regulations, workers' compensation claims, personal injury cases, tribal laws and regulations, patent filings, and litigation strategies. Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive compliance programs to ensure adherence to federal, state, and local laws. Oversee all legal aspects of corporate governance, including drafting policies, managing legal risks, and advising on contractual agreements. Conduct thorough legal research using tools such as LexisNexis and Westlaw to support decision-making processes and stay current with evolving laws. Manage litigation processes by coordinating with external counsel when necessary and overseeing case strategy from inception through resolution. Develop training programs for staff on legal compliance issues relevant to their roles and responsibilities. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of laws affecting the organization's operations across multiple jurisdictions while ensuring all departments follow best practices for legal integrity. Qualifications Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school with active bar admission. Extensive experience practicing in multiple legal domains including estate planning, environmental law, immigration law, landlord-tenant law, family law, securities law, workers' compensation law, personal injury law, tribal law & regulations, patent law; prior experience in a senior in-house counsel or chief compliance officer role preferred. Proven ability to conduct comprehensive legal research using LexisNexis and Westlaw platforms. Exceptional writing skills with proficiency in legal drafting for policies, contracts, pleadings, and reports. Strong negotiation skills demonstrated through successful resolution of complex disputes or contractual negotiations. Familiarity with managing litigation processes from case assessment through resolution. Legal administrative experience including managing multiple projects simultaneously within a busy law office environment. Excellent analytical skills combined with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly to non-lawyers.
