About the

Position:

Our client, a Chicago-based professional liability insurer, is seeking a senior litigator/insurance coverage lawyer to join its underwriting team in a unique, partner-caliber role (underwriting experience not required). This organization has a strong track record of offering a long-term platform and this role provides a rare opportunity to stay deeply engaged with the legal industry without the demands of billable hours or business development.

Responsibilities:

• Evaluate and advise on insurance coverage and risk issues for law firm clients
• Play a key role in underwriting decisions across new business and renewals
• Analyze complex scenarios, including lateral hires, mergers, and evolving firm structures
• Serve as a primary point of contact for firm leadership on coverage-related matters
• Collaborate internally on underwriting strategy, policy development, and client service (The role includes hands-on involvement in underwriting processes, with a focus on judgment, analysis, and client interaction.

Qualifications:

• 10-15+ years of experience in a leading law firm or comparable in-house role

Either:

• Strong insurance coverage experience or
• Broad-based litigation experience with strong client-facing skills and interest in the insurance space
• Underwriting experience not required
• Excellent academic and professional credentials
• Strong judgment, communication skills, and client presence

Location:

Chicago, IL (Hybrid)

Compensation:

The anticipated salary for this position is $325,000.
