Job Description Please note: This is a term position not-to-exceed September 30, 2029, subject to availability of funds. This position may be extended, or made permanent, without further advertising. There is one Assistant U.S. Attorney (Appellate Division) position that will be located in Beaumont, Plano, Sherman, or Tyler, TX. The U.S. Attorney's Office is currently seeking to fill an AUSA position in the Appellate Division. The Appellate Division represents the U.S. Attorney's Office in criminal matters in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. As an AUSA in the Appellate Division, you will research, write appellate briefs and post-conviction responses, and present oral arguments on a variety of complex and novel issues involving the constitution, statutory construction, evidentiary and procedural matters, and sentencing issues. You will be assigned immigration cases. You may also handle other types of cases as needed. You will also provide real-time trial assistance to AUSAs. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Required Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree (or equivalent), be an active member in good standing of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) and have at least one-year post-J.D. (or equivalent) legal or other relevant experience. A minimum of 1-year post-J.D. (or equivalent) legal or other relevant experience is required. United States citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Applicants must demonstrate a quick analytical ability to accurately and precisely articulate the critical issues in a case. Applicants must demonstrate superior oral and writing skills, as well as strong research and interpersonal skills, and good judgment. Applicants must possess excellent communication and courtroom skills and exhibit the ability to work in a supportive and professional manner with other attorneys, support staff, and client agencies.
