Build Your Career In-House — and Be Part of the Business A successful, privately held, multi-location operating company headquartered in San Antonio is seeking a talented and business-minded attorney to join its in-house legal team as Corporate Counsel. This is an opportunity for an attorney with approximately 4-8 years of experience who wants more than a traditional legal role. You will work directly with senior leadership, gain exposure to virtually every area of the business, and have the opportunity to take meaningful ownership of legal matters from beginning to resolution. We are looking for an attorney who enjoys solving problems, learning how a business really works, and providing practical advice that helps people make good decisions. You do not need to come from our industry. We are looking first for intelligence, judgment, initiative, strong legal skills and a genuine interest in learning the business. For the right attorney, this is an opportunity to build a long-term in-house career while developing experience across a remarkably broad range of legal and business matters. What You'll Do No two days will look exactly the same.
Your work will include:
Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts, vendor and service agreements, technology agreements, marketing agreements, NDAs and leases. Working directly with business leaders to understand both the legal and commercial objectives behind transactions. Managing litigation, pre-litigation demands, customer and commercial disputes, administrative complaints and other claims. Conducting internal investigations and developing practical recommendations based on the facts. Advising on regulatory and compliance matters, including consumer protection, advertising and marketing, privacy and data security. Reviewing agreements involving software, digital platforms, artificial intelligence and customer or company data. Supporting employment, real estate, financing, acquisition and disposition matters. Coordinating with insurance carriers and managing outside counsel strategically. Researching emerging legal issues and translating complicated legal requirements into practical business guidance. Preparing concise assessments and recommendations for executive leadership. Helping improve legal processes, contract management, forms and compliance tools as the organization continues to grow and evolve. What Makes This Opportunity Different You will be close to the business. This is not a legal department operating on the sidelines. You will work directly with senior executives and operating leaders and see how legal advice affects real business decisions. You will have meaningful responsibility. We want an attorney who is ready to take ownership of matters, not simply research an issue and hand it to someone else. You will develop broad experience. Rather than being limited to one specialty, you will gain exposure to contracts, litigation, employment, regulatory compliance, real estate, technology, privacy, transactions and business strategy. You will have room to grow. We are looking for someone interested in building a long-term in-house career and growing in responsibility as their knowledge of the organization and business develops. You will be encouraged to find solutions. Our goal is not simply to identify every possible legal concern. We want to understand which risks matter and find thoughtful ways to protect the company while allowing the business to move forward. What We're Looking For Candidates should have: Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school. Active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar and the ability to satisfy applicable Texas requirements for in-house counsel. Approximately 4-8 years of relevant legal experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, or combination of both. Strong contract drafting, negotiation, legal research and analytical skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Sound judgment and the confidence to make recommendations. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines. The ability to investigate issues independently, identify the important facts and develop a recommended course of action. The ability to communicate effectively with attorneys, executives and operational teams. Experience in one or more of the following areas would be particularly valuable: Commercial contracts and transactions Corporate law Commercial litigation Employment law Consumer protection and regulatory compliance Real estate and leasing Data privacy and cybersecurity Technology Insurance claims Mergers and acquisitions Prior experience in our particular industry is not required. We are interested in attorneys who are intellectually curious and eager to learn a sophisticated operating business. Who Will Thrive Here You may be a particularly good fit if you: Want to transition from a law firm into a meaningful in-house role. Already work in-house but want broader responsibility and greater exposure to senior leadership. Enjoy understanding the business behind the legal question. Take ownership and follow matters through completion. Ask questions and verify facts rather than making assumptions. Can distinguish significant business risks from theoretical legal concerns. Prefer recommending solutions rather than simply identifying problems. Communicate complicated issues clearly and concisely. Are comfortable making decisions and exercising judgment. Enjoy a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment. Want your work to have a visible impact on the organization you serve.
