Exempt Position Summary The Deputy County Attorney shall perform professional legal work on behalf of Morgan County, primarily in the prosecution of criminal cases. This position must exercise independent judgment, maintain the highest ethical standards, and ensure compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and procedures. The Deputy Attorney shall represent Morgan County in juvenile, justice, and district courts, and must be licensed to practice law in the State of Utah. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prosecute criminal cases in juvenile, justice, and district courts. Must be willing to work evenings as court requires. Review, prepare, and file criminal informations, motions, and other legal pleadings. Appear in court to present evidence, examine witnesses, argue motions, and conduct trials and hearings. Advise law enforcement officers regarding criminal investigations, arrests, search warrants, and charging decisions. Review investigative reports and determine appropriate legal action. Ensure that victims' rights are protected in accordance with applicable statutes. Negotiate plea agreements where appropriate and authorized. Conduct legal research and prepare written memoranda, briefs, and other documents. Maintain knowledge of current laws, rules, regulations, and case law relevant to assigned responsibilities. Must be willing to follow all county policies and procedures. Perform other legal duties as assigned by the County Attorney. Minimum Qualifications Must possess a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school. Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Utah and in good standing with the Utah State Bar. Must have knowledge of principles and practices of criminal law and procedure, rules of evidence, and courtroom practices. Must have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Must have the ability to work with law enforcement, victims, witnesses, and the general public with professionalism and integrity. Prior experience in criminal prosecution is preferred but not required. Physical and Environmental Requirements Work is performed primarily in an office and courtroom environment. The position requires extended periods of sitting, concentration, and computer use. The position may require travel to court locations and law enforcement offices.Similar remote jobs
