Federal courts in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia About the Role Anwari Law Firm is looking for an experienced attorney to handle federal court appearances on our behalf in immigration-related litigation. This is an ongoing independent contractor relationship with steady work for the right person. You will appear at status conferences, motion hearings, and other proceedings in the U.S. District Courts for Maryland and the District of Columbia, working closely with our team on case strategy and reporting back after each appearance. We handle a high volume of federal litigation arising out of immigration matters, and we need a reliable courtroom presence who can step in when our attorneys cannot personally appear. What You'll Do Make appearances in federal court on behalf of the firm and our clients Argue motions and represent the firm at status conferences, hearings, and other proceedings Coordinate with our litigation team on case strategy in advance of each appearance Provide written summaries of court proceedings and any orders issued Communicate professionally with opposing counsel, AUSAs, and the court Case Types You will primarily handle: Mandamus actions involving delayed USCIS and consular adjudications APA challenges to immigration agency action and inaction Other immigration-related federal litigation as needed Requirements Active bar admission in Maryland and the District of Columbia Admission to practice in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland and the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia In good standing with all licensing authorities Federal court experience required; immigration litigation experience strongly preferred Comfortable handling appearances independently with minimal hand-holding Reliable communication and quick turnaround on case updates Professional liability insurance (or willingness to obtain) Nice to Have Prior experience with mandamus and APA litigation Familiarity with USCIS, DOS, and ICE/DHS processes Spanish, Dari, Pashto, or other relevant language skills Logistics 1099 independent contractor; you set your own schedule and accept appearances on a case-by-case basis Volume varies, but we anticipate consistent work throughout the year Appearances are in person at federal courthouses in MD and D.C.
