Job Description

The Director of Trust and Estate Settlement is a senior fiduciary leader responsible for the expert oversight and strategic execution of estate settlement and administration at Legacy Private Trust Company. This role is designed for a proven practitioner — someone who brings deep technical knowledge, disciplined processes, and an unwavering commitment to accuracy and client service excellence. The Director serves as the firm's primary internal authority on estate settlement, guiding complex engagements from asset collection through final distribution with independence, precision, and professionalism. This leader sets the standard for fiduciary excellence, maintains rigorous deadline management, and builds trusted relationships with clients, attorneys, CPAs, and court professionals — all while ensuring every case is documented, tracked, and executed with meticulous attention to detail.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, accounting, law, or a related field required. JD, CPA, or advanced degree in a relevant discipline preferred.
Experience:
Minimum 5-7 years of hands-on experience in personal trust administration, estate settlement, or fiduciary services required. 8+ years of progressive experience managing complex estates and high-net-worth client relationships preferred. Candidates must be able to articulate a clear, proven methodology for managing estate settlement engagements from intake through closure.
Certifications/Licenses:
JD, CTFA, CPA, or other relevant fiduciary certifications preferred. Practical experience with trust accounting systems required; advanced proficiency preferred.
Technical Skills:
Deep knowledge of estate settlement procedures, trust administration, probate law, and fiduciary principles. Experience with federal and state estate tax returns and fiduciary income tax returns. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Hands-on experience with TrustDesk or comparable trust accounting platforms. The Director of Trust and Estate Settlement leads estate and trust settlement engagements end-to-end, from asset gathering and debt settlement through complex distribution and final closure. This role oversees the Estate Settlement Unit (ESU) Committee, serves as the primary liaison with attorneys, CPAs, executors, and beneficiaries, and provides senior-level management of unique assets including real estate and promissory notes. The position requires a self-directed fiduciary specialist with demonstrated process ownership, exceptional attention to detail, and the highest standards of ethical conduct and confidentiality. This is an Officer-level, exempt position reporting to the Senior Vice President, Trust Administration.
