Description:
Legal Aid of West Virginia (LAWV) is seeking a passionate and dedicated Staff Attorney to join our Beckley office , providing critical legal services to victims of domestic violence. This is an opportunity to use your legal skills to create meaningful change—helping individuals and families achieve safety, stability, and economic security , while supporting client empowerment every step of the way. What you will do Provide direct legal representation to victims of domestic violence Advocate for client safety, family stability, and financial independence Conduct client interviews, case assessments, and develop legal strategies Balance administrative responsibilities with active client advocacy Collaborate with LAWV staff and community partners to deliver comprehensive support Utilize and learn LAWV's case management systems and office technologies
Requirements:
We're seeking an attorney who not only brings strong legal skills, but also a deep commitment to serving vulnerable populations.
Required Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree Admission to practice law in West Virginia and in good standing OR eligibility for admission under WV Supreme Court Rule 9 OR ability to sit for the next West Virginia Bar Exam Demonstrated commitment to understanding and addressing: Domestic violence issues The needs of low-income and underserved populations Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage both advocacy and administrative duties Proficiency in office technology and willingness to learn LAWV case management software
