Child Support Specialist I/II Level I:
$42,806.40 - $52,249.60Annually Level II:

Some duties, knowledge, skills, and abilities may be performed in a learning capacity for entry-level (I Level) positions. Maintains an assigned caseload of child support cases; processes various assigned tasks and case actions related to the establishment, enforcement, and modification of child support obligations in compliance with child support program rules and regulations and timeframes for processing. Receives and reviews applications for Child Support from various sources including electronic and physical sources, as well as referrals from court, state, and other county departments. Schedules appointments and conducts interactive, fact-gathering interviews with applicants and program participants to obtain demographic, financial, asset, visitation, and parentage information necessary to determine need for, or establish, child support orders; conducts buccal swabbing as required for genetic testing. Utilizes various methods, systems, and modalities to locate parents/parties, income, assets, and liabilities including but not limited to county, state, and federal agencies and databases, employers, social media, and internet sites. Evaluates demographic, income, and expense information attained to determine support obligations for establishing and/or modifying orders utilizing statewide uniform guidelines. Prepares a variety of legal forms and correspondence related to the establishment, enforcement, and modification of child support obligations; initiates appropriate legal action to establish and enforce orders, parentage, and location of parent(s). Receives, reviews, and processes changes in circumstances which may qualify for modifications; verifies changes; generates and reviews adjustment document; forwards modification to appropriate parties for authorization. Conducts research to determine employment status/income for individuals ordered to pay support; serves wage garnishments and national medical support notices. Monitor payment status on assigned cases; determines necessity for further enforcement actions such as liens, levies, license suspensions, and/or court actions. Participates in the establishment, enforcement, and modification of child support orders and parentage actions for outside states; determines state holding jurisdiction; files appropriate legal documentation according to jurisdiction and guidelines; and communicates with child support agencies within those states to complete case actions. Receives and responds to a high volume of inquiries and/or requests for information/assistance in office, over the phone, and/or via email; provides courteous customer service, and accurate information related to the child support program. Coordinates with various internal and external agencies to communicate, receive, and verify information, including verification of income/assets, household demographics, visitation, parentage, and intergovernmental services. Attends and participates in a variety of meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions to remain current on programs, regulations, policies, procedures, and new developments related to the child support program. Maintains accurate and detailed records and files; updates information, researches discrepancies, and performs data entry; maintains documentation for case management activities. Provides courteous, respectful, honest, timely and professional communication and information to all County staff, program participants, visitors, external agencies, and the general public; utilizes effective de-escalation techniques as necessary. Provides training to subordinate and less experienced staff and volunteers as assigned. Performs other related duties as assigned.Please note:

Education:
Child Support Specialist I and II:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12 th ) grade.Experience:
Child Support Specialist I:
One (1) year of experience in a public contact position with responsibility for interviewing applicants or case participants, exchanging detailed verbal information with customers, communicating with employers/customers to elicit information, and/or interpreting and applying policies, laws or regulations. Additional education may substitute for the required experience.)Child Support Specialist II:
One (1) year of at a level equivalent to the classification of Child Support Specialist I at Kings County.LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Licenses:
Possession of a valid California driver's license issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles at the time of appointment.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
