Full Job Description Position Overview:
Established in 2007, Schlee IP is a boutique intellectual property law firm based in Manhattan Beach, CA, specializing in providing exceptional patent and trademark prosecution and counseling services to domestic and international clients. Schlee IP is currently seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join its team. This role offers opportunities to perform a diverse range of tasks, gain unique exposure to foreign laws with regular interaction with foreign associates, and grow within a supportive work environment. Qualified candidates should have at least two years of experience working in a law firm. While prior experience in patent law is preferred, it is not required.
Qualifications:
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years as a legal assistant or paralegal (experience in patent law is a plus but not required).
Education:
High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree and/or paralegal certification preferred
Skills:
Excellent organizational and time-management skills Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines Strong written and verbal communication skills Quick learner - ready to learn on the job Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and
Adobe Acrobat Key Responsibilities:
Assist attorneys in preparing and filing U.S. and international patent and trademark applications and office action replies. Preparing forms for USPTO filings, including Application Data Sheets, Information Disclosure Statements, Assignments, Transmittal Forms, and Power of Attorneys. Managing deadlines and maintaining docket systems for key actions, including responses, renewals, oppositions, PCT requirements, and patent annuities (domestic and international). Corresponding with clients, foreign associates, and patent offices. Drafting and sending invoices and report letters to clients. Answer telephones for attorneys, as well as others in a professional manner; take messages and forward calls to appropriate parties. Preparing, formatting, and proofreading legal documents. Checking statuses and downloading documents from platforms including USPTO Patent Center, Espacenet, EPOline, WIPO Patentscope, e-PCT, and foreign patent databases. Conducting searches for trademark matters in USPTO Trademark Search. Providing support in prosecution of trademark applications.
