Salary:
$42,000-$48,000 per year, depending on experience The Law Offices of Nancy M. Martinez, P.C. is a busy boutique family law firm in Palo Alto seeking an intelligent, organized, dependable, and professional legal assistant to support two family law attorneys. Our firm handles divorce, child custody and visitation, child support, spousal support, property division, parentage, domestic violence restraining orders, and related family law matters primarily in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants hands-on legal experience in a small firm environment. The right candidate will work directly with attorneys, have meaningful client contact, assist with case management, and gain exposure to court filings, discovery, hearing preparation, and trial preparation.
Job duties include:
  • Answering phones and communicating professionally with clients, attorneys, court staff, and other professionals;
  • Assisting with client intake and follow-up;
  • Managing calendars, deadlines, hearings, and appointments;
  • Drafting and proofreading correspondence;
  • Preparing basic Judicial Council forms, proofs of service, notices, and routine legal documents;
  • Organizing electronic case files and discovery;
  • Filing and e-filing documents with the San Mateo and Santa Clara County courts;
  • Assisting with hearing and trial preparation;
  • Providing general administrative support and other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
At least two (2) years of prior legal assistant, paralegal, law office, or similar professional office experience is required. The ideal candidate is intelligent, dependable, organized, detail-oriented, professional, and interested in learning family law. Spanish fluency preferred. A strong candidate will have excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills; good judgment; the ability to maintain confidentiality; and a calm, compassionate demeanor when working with clients who are going through difficult family law issues. Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Essential Forms, Clio, Box/OneDrive, legal forms programs, and e-filing is a plus. Family law or civil litigation experience is helpful but not required.
Compensation and Benefits:
Salary is $42,000 to $48,000 per year, depending on experience. Benefits include a 401(k) retirement plan, partially employer-sponsored health insurance, paid sick leave as required by law, and one week of paid vacation per year. How to
