Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE
McKibben Johnson, LLC is seeking a strong, experienced paralegal who can be trusted to maintain command of a full caseload of pre-litigation and litigation matters, and keep the legal operation running. This is not a task-based support position — we need someone who understands what has to happen, makes sure it happens, anticipates what comes next, and keeps the Managing Attorney informed without requiring the attorney to manage the file.
Practice areas:
Auto and trucking collisions, premises liability, medical malpractice, and estate planning, wills and trusts.
WHAT YOU'LL OWN
Carry a full caseload — pre-litigation through litigation, settlement, and resolution — knowing the status, outstanding needs, and next step on every file Handle case workup, medical and damages development, liens, demands, negotiations, settlement documentation, and disbursement Draft and manage pleadings, discovery, motions, subpoenas, affidavits, and court filings; review incoming discovery and correspondence and identify required action Manage the Managing Attorney's calendar and independently calendar and protect statutes of limitation, discovery deadlines, and every other critical date Prepare the attorney for depositions, mediation, hearings, voir dire, and trial, and build complete, attorney-ready trial binders Coordinate with clients, opposing counsel, courts, experts, medical providers, and vendors Serve as the experienced resource for Case Managers and Intake staff, stepping in wherever needed to keep cases from stalling Proactively review files for gaps, stalled activity, or approaching deadlines — and fix them before they become emergencies
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
You've already lived this role. You've carried a substantial caseload — both pre-litigation and litigation — from intake through resolution, and you know instinctively what a file needs at each stage: which records have to obtained before a demand goes out, which discovery deadlines aren't negotiable, which cases are quietly stalling. You don't wait to be told; you already know, and you're already moving. You bring the same discipline to the courtroom side of the practice as you do pre-suit. You know how to prepare an attorney for a deposition or mediation, keep a trial binder audit-ready, and stay ahead of every filing deadline, because you understand Georgia civil procedure well enough to catch a problem before it becomes one. Independence, to you, doesn't mean going quiet. You keep the attorney informed, flag what needs a decision, and make sure nothing catches them by surprise. If something does go sideways, the attorney can come to you and get a clear, accurate picture of where things stand and what happens next — without digging through the file themselves. You're also not too senior to handle lower-level tasks such as processing mail, organizing files, taking an intake, chasing down records, or rebuilding a case from the ground up, if necessary, whatever the needs of the business call for. You're looking for a place to put down roots, grow, and take ownership — not a stepping-stone.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
3+ years of verifiable, substantive paralegal experience, including significant personal injury work across both pre-litigation and litigation Minimum Associate degree in Paralegal Studies or a comparable field Strong knowledge of Georgia civil litigation, discovery, court filings, calendaring, and deadlines Demonstrated experience supporting attorneys through depositions, mediation, hearings, voir dire, and trial Proven ability to independently manage a substantial caseload, calendar, and deadlines without oversight Sound judgment about what to handle independently versus what requires the attorney's involvement Exceptional attention to detail, reliability, and follow-through
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree, paralegal certificate, Georgia Notary Public commission, and experience in a growing personal injury practice spanning pre-litigation and litigation.

Start within 0-2 weeks; the first two weeks are structured orientation on firm systems, standards, and caseload. If you require constant direction to determine what happens next on a case, this is not the right position. If you're accustomed to being the person the attorney turns to — because you know the file, the deadline, the problem, and the next step — we want to meet you.
