A Paralegal or Legal Assistant assists attorneys and law offices with a variety of tasks ranging from administrative support to legal research and writing. Maintains and organizes files or file databases. Conducts legal or other background research, assists with preparation for trials or hearings, and drafts documents to be filed. Uses software for electronic discovery of materials such as email for a trial. May specialize in a particular area of the law such as corporate or criminal law, family law or real estate law.
CohenMalad, LLP has a unique opportunity available for an experienced personal injury paralegal to join our Sexual Assault Team. The right candidate will be a motivated self-starter who works independently, is results-oriented, has extensive pre-litigation and/or litigation knowledge, demonstrates an attention to detail, is capable of moving a case through the litigation/trial process with minimal supervision, and has a compassionate personality and desire to help people. The position involves direct client contact and the opportunity to be part of a team dedicated to helping the clients we represent.
Key Responsibilities:
Case Management:
assist attorneys in preparing and organizing case files, accurate and up-to-date case calendars and deadlines, coordinate and schedule client meetings, court appearances, and hearings.
Document Preparation:
assist in preparing legal briefs, pleadings, and motions.
Client Communications:
communicate with clients and provide updates on case progress, gather information from clients and maintain regular contact to ensure case information is current and accurate.
Court Filings and Procedures:
prepare and file legal documents with the court, adhering to relevant rules and procedures, monitor case dockets and ensure all deadlines are met, coordinate service of process and document delivery to parties involved.
Discovery Process:
assist in the discovery process by gathering and organizing relevant documents and information, prepare discovery requests and responses.
Mediation and Settlements:
assist in the preparation for mediation sessions and settlement negotiations.
Trial Support:
prepare trial exhibits, witness lists, and other trial-related materials, coordinate with witnesses and experts for trial appearances.
Administrative Tasks:
perform general administrative duties, such as drafting correspondence, answering phones, and managing office tasks.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Personal Injury paralegal experience is required. Sexual Assault Experience is preferred. Strong knowledge of applicable statutes, regulations, and court procedures. Excellent research and analytical skills. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to work independently and a part of a team. Maintains confidentiality and exercises discretion in dealing with sensitive information. Familiarity with legal document management systems and cases management software is a plus.
