Hiring Agency Justice & Public Safety Cabinet | Office of the Secretary Location 2624 Research Pk Lexington, KY 40511 USA Description The Justice and Public Safety Cabinet is seeking a qualified Paralegal to provide essential support to the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council. This position is under the Office of the Secretary and will be physically located at the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet, Office of Legal Services and will primarily support the attorneys and staff for KLEC. As a national leader in criminal justice, the Justice and Public Safety strives to create a safe and secure society through effective prevention. With over 7,000 employees across five departments, including the Kentucky State Police and the Department of Corrections, we are one of the largest agencies in Kentucky State Government. Key Responsibilities:
Draft and prepare legal documents including pleadings, exhibits and subpoenas. Assist in the management of all phases of case preparation for police officer decertification cases, including maintaining file organization, contacting witnesses, exhibit preparation for administrative hearings. Conduct legal research and assist with preparation for quarterly KLEC meetings. Maintain case files and schedule court reporters. Assist with responses to open records requests. Research and analyze legal cases.
The ideal candidates will possess:
A keen eye for detail and meticulous work habits. Proven ability to complete complex assignments independently. A strong ability to multitask. Experience with administrative law process. Some travel is required. Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION
Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in paralegal science or a bachelor's degree with a minor in paralegal studies OR two-year program in paralegal studies OR post-baccalaureate certificate in paralegal studies.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS
Four years of experience as a paralegal or legal secretary. Substitute

A Juris Doctorate or a law degree from a college of law will substitute for the education and experience requirement. Substitute

Experience as a paralegal or legal secretary will substitute for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
